Leaves of Grace

 The crowd said to Jesus:

Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”  Then Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”  They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”  Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.  John 6: 31-35 (NRSV)

Leaves of Grace (Acrylic on Canvas Quadriptych)  This painting is still in progress.  Thank you for your patience.

I know that we are still in the season of Summer, but as people start to head back to school and things like football season lurk around the corner, it seems as if Fall is on the horizon.

I have long had a fascination with leaves.  I find myself collecting leaves.  I pick up large, unique leaves and they end up decorating the head of my drafting table.  Each time I look at these leaves I think of leaves falling from the trees, seemingly as if from the heavens.  These leaves represent the blessings that God showers upon us each and every day.  Falling leaves act as reminders of spiritual manna in the wilderness of life.  May God’s leaves of grace continue to rain down on us.  And may we have eyes to see the daily blessings we receive!

The true bread from heaven that we receive day in and day out is God’s presence among us revealed in Jesus Christ made present to us by the power of the Holy Spirit.  God who makes God’s dwelling among us, acts as the leaves of grace, the ever present blessing in our life.  Immanuel, God with us, showers us with grace upon grace.  Like the leaves that fall from the trees, the blessings are too numerous to count, immeasurable outpourings of the love of God that act as living water and bread from heaven in the midst of this desert journey of life.

Leaves also have the meaning of pages.  There is a new component of the website:  Falling Leaves:  Words of Grace.  Here I will be periodically posting inspiration quotes, writings, musings, etc.  This page will represent some of the things that give me inspiration, that have been a blessing in my life.  They will be the words of grace that, like fallen leaves, land in my lap through the course of my days.

God is the source of our inspiration, creativity, hope, peace, and love.  May we see God’s presence and inspiration through the world around us.  And may we in turn be a blessing and inspiration to others.

Let Us Pray:  Lord of the Cosmos, what are we that you are mindful of us?  Help us to trust in you.   Help us to remember that we are your beloved children.  May we receive your love and blessings with open arms.  May we be good stewards of your love and blessings, sharing them with all the we meet.  Use us as your vessel that we might pour out leaves of grace on others just as you have poured out leaves of grace upon us.  In the name of Jesus, from whom all blessings flow, we pray.  Amen and thanks be to God!
