Brokenness Being Transformed

Brokenness Being Transformed (Acrylic on Canvas)

As I look around me in the world, I see brokenness.  As I look at my neighbor, I see brokenness.  As I look at creation, I see brokenness.  And if I am honest with myself, when I look within I see brokenness.  We live in a world of brokenness.  All around and within us is separation, alienation, and division.  It is all marred by sin.  The shards of life are scattered around us.

Yet this is not the end of the story.  Brokenness does not have the final say.  Sin does not have the last word.  There is hope.  There is transformation.

We all have great sorrows in our lives, some more than others.  We all have disappointments in life.  And God is big enough to handle our sorrow, our disappointment, and our anger.  And yet when we surrender the brokenness in our lives to the God who is creator and source of creation, piece by piece God fashions us into who God is calling us to be.  Out of our brokenness comes transformation.  This transformation is a process.  Day by day we surrender our brokenness to the Potter’s hand.  And day by day, God brings about the work of reconciliation in our lives.

I do not believe that everything happens for a reason, but I do believe that God is in the business of making all things new.  I do not believe everything happens for a reason, but I do believe that God can transform any situation.  God has a way of coming into out lives and transforming our brokenness.  God comes in the midst of the rubble and shards and starts to make in us a new creation that is able to be purposeful, useful, and be about the work of God’s kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.  God lovingly picks up each potsherd, breathes on it new life, and gives it a place to belong.  And God’s loving grace acts as the grout that holds everything together.  The process is messy, yet the cleansing waters of the Holy Spirit continue to wash over us.

Let Us Pray:  Creative Spirit, breathe on us.  Transform our brokenness into something beautiful.  Equip us to be used for your purposes here on earth.  Take our sorrow and give us joy.  Take our disappointment and give us hope.  Take our anger and give us peace and surrender.  We surrender ourselves to your keeping.  You are the Master Mosaic Artist.  We trust in you and know that you will handle us with care.  Create in us Your new creation.  Continue to fashion us into who You have called us to become.  Let us not be impatient with the process.  Let us realize the journey is just as important as the destination.  We are Yours.  Take us just as we are.  Yet may we never be the same because of Your love.  And because of your love, help us to also be about the work of transforming brokenness around us.  Gives us courage to live lives grounded in reconciliation, love, hope, joy, and peace.  Amen.
