The word mandala is Sanskrit for circle, wholeness, completion. The practice of creating mandalas has long been a sacred art. The word mandala carries a similar concept to the Biblical undertandings of shalom and eirene (the Hebrew and Greek words for peace). The act of creating a mandala is in and of itself a form of contemplative prayer. Each of these mandalas represent a prayer journey through the medium of painting. This spiritual voyage involves being open to exploring the depths of our soul. Mandalas embody balance and peace. Each time we create a mandala we endeavor to align ourselves with God who is creator and perfect balance.
